UPDATE: Man shot; suspect turns herself into police

UPDATE: Kyla Cheechanow has turned herself into police. RCMP say Cheenanow was taken into custody at a home in Loon Lake and is scheduled to appear in court in Meadow Lake today.

The general investigation and forensic identification sections of the Battlefords RCMP are working with Loon Lake RCMP to investigate a shooting incident over the weekend near Meadow Lake. 

Police say the incident happened Saturday evening around 11 p.m. Police were called after an adult male arrived in hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. RCMP say the shooting happened at a home in the community of Loon Lake. 

The 29-year-old man has since been released from hospital. 

RCMP have now charged 18-year-old Kyla Cheenanow of the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation in connection with the incident. Cheenanow is charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm while not authorized and failure to comply with an undertaking. 

RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating Cheenanow. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Kyla Cheenanow is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
